LAST year's runner-up Camperdown has sunk to the bottom of the ladder after it was massacred by Warrnambool in the opening round of the Hampden Football League.
Warrnambool slammed on eight first-quarter goals to bully Camperdown out of the contest and then kept it scoreless in the final term to rub salt into the wound.Warrnambool's Jason Rowan was the dominant force up front with eight goals and Justin Eales was superb. Premier South Warrnambool also disappointed in its opener against 2004-05 premier Terang-Mortlake. Only four points separated the teams at half-time, but scoring chances for South dried up in the second half, losing 16.17 (113) to 11.9 (75).Cobden's Brendan Murfett started his season on song with a seven-goal haul, helping his team roll Port Fairy 15.16 (106) to 8.4 (52).And Koroit 300-gamer Damian Dobson was named in his team's best when it crunched perennial cellar-dweller North Warrnambool, 26.20 (176) to 10.5 (65).The Goulburn Valley league completed its opening round at the weekend and all eyes were on Seymour as the premier began its bid for a title hat-trick.Seymour's performance against Tatura would quell any doubts of a premiership hangover.Seymour's freakish forward Saad Saad was up to his usual tricks, slotting seven goals, helped by Jeff Anderson, who nailed four.It was a frightening performance from the two-time premier, flattening its opponent 28.27 (195) to 3.8 (26).Last year's runner-up Benalla poured on five goals in the third term to put its nose in front at the final break in its clash against Shepparton United. But the two-point margin was not enough, with the home team running over the top of Benalla 13.14 (92) to 11.11 (77).Rochester's Phillip Lobb and Anthony McPhee both booted six goals as their team gave Kyabram a tickle, 21.14 (140) to 13.9 (87).And 2006 surprise packet Mooroopna started its season in sparkling form, claiming a 20-point win against Shepparton thanks to a seven-goal haul from Brad Campbell. Moyhu began its premiership defence with a hard-fought win against Milawa in Ovens and King.
